We offer unique properties that showcase 20th-century architecture, and we tastefully outfit them with the latest technology, curated amenities, and luxe textiles and linens.
-
Every decision is made with an eye on sustainability. Not only do we choose products like all-natural toiletries purchased in bulk and tree-free paper towels, but we also engage in practices like buying locally, reducing our waste, and increasing efficiency. We partner with local vendors who are committed to making the right choices for this delicate mountain environment and the planet. We are confident our offerings are unique among sustainable travel options in North Lake Tahoe.
-
Our cabins are outfitted with everything you need for a peaceful home base, so you can rest assured that you’ll make the most of your time in Tahoe.
-
We believe that details matter. That’s why we perform rigorous inspections before and after cleaning to ensure you’re walking into a cabin that is warm and welcoming. It’s also why we read guests’ comments during booking and follow up with customized recommendations or offers to book activities. From start to finish, our small team is committed to providing five-star service.
why i host.
In the winter of 2020, several friends and I rented a home in Alpine Meadows for the year, and during this year, we purchased Bearadise together, hosting guests for eight months of the year.
Throughout that first year of hosting, I was motivated by two insights:
1 - our offering was unique in the Tahoe area. We were a certified green business focused on providing easy-to-love and sustainable accommodation with a focus on service and classic hospitality.
2 - guests lived deeply important experiences in our home while we weren’t there, leaving poignant and grateful comments in our guestbook.
I realized how important our role could be in the local hospitality industry and our community of North Lake Tahoe, but also the lives of our guests. It has been a privilege to be a part, if only a small one, of these momentous life events.
I came into hosting somewhat accidentally, as many of us do.
For years, my friends and I had been renting cabins for the winter months—we call them “ski leases” in California—and we’d been eager to establish our own home in the mountains.
When the opportunity to purchase the home we had rented in 2020, Sparklebridge, I jumped at the opportunity, knowing the previous owners’ fastidiousness and the house's condition and workings. Having lived there for a year, I knew what a special and unique place it is, and I felt the opportunity to purchase it was a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Reimagining these homes for hosting has been inspiring and humbling, a ton of work, and incredibly joyful. By far, the greatest gift is sympathetic joy, vicariously experiencing the joy of my guests as they spend time in these cabins.
From these origins, skicab.in was born, with our goals of providing guests with unique, sustainable accommodation and access to Tahoe and its many treasures, stewardship of the home and the region’s precious wilderness, and fair employment and partnership opportunities for Tahoe locals.
Thank you for taking some time to get to know what we’re about, and I look forward to getting to know you.
